Mary Datum is an artist living in Southwest Missouri in the city of Joplin. Her current medium of choice is oils. She was raised in Northern California and Nevada.
Her artistic process began as a young child during frequent excursions to the San Francisco fine arts museums. The De Young and the Asian Art Museum were her favorites. Now, her primary source of inspiration for her diverse subject matter comes from the simple things in nature and around the home and in the beauty of Southwest Missouri Ozarks.
Painting is a way to get lost in whatever she is creating, to feel not just see. When drawing or painting an animal or person she tries to instill a look of life in their eyes.
Her art work is in many private residences throughout the U.S. Her art can also be seen at Urban Art Gallery, Joplin, Missouri.
She participates in workshops to expand her knowledge and continue to grow as an artist. She feels that painting is a lifelong process of learning and growing. She currently is a member of the Joplin Regional Artists Coalition, Artists of Northwest Arkansas and Oil Painters of America.
